Have you ever noticed just how similar Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 looks like to Apple’s iPad? It’s so similar, in fact, that half of TV viewers thought it was an Apple product after Samsung aired its first commercial for the tablet. Only a mere 16% recognized that Samsung made the product in the commercial...
As Cult of Mac points out, this statistic comes from the latest internal Samsung document to appear in court. Apple claimed that Samsung deliberately copied the iPad’s design to mooch off of its success. Frankly, it’s hard to deny the claim after looking at the report, which explains that the Galaxy Tab was so closely designed to the iPad it gave consumers a hard time differentiating between the two tablets.
“Given Apple’s already strong position in the tablet category, it is critical that attribution of [Galaxy] Tab communications improve and that communication works to differentiate Tab from iPad,” the report reads. “…only 11 percent of customers are aware of and can link the Galaxy Tab back to Samsung, while 65% of consumers are aware and can like the iPad back to Apple."
What do you think? Did Samsung copy Apple in its design of the Galaxy Tab?
