pod2g now running iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak on his iPhone 4

Famous iOS hacker pod2g has just announced that he has a fully working iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak on his iPhone 4! We reported earlier this week that pod2g had made great progress on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak over the weekend, and now it looks like we’re that much closer to seeing it.

There is, however, still a lot of work to be done for A5 devices (iPhone 4S and iPad 2). But, it’s good to see that the hacker is continuing his work on the jailbreak. He recently posted a poll asking what jailbreakers thought: to continue work on iOS 5.1 jailbreak or to save exploits for iOS 6. Well, the majority of jailbreakers voted that they wanted the iOS 5.1 jailbreak now, and it looks like they might get it.

It’s important to note that it takes a lot of time to package and prepare the jailbreak for mass distribution so it may still take a while before we see it, even for A4 devices. Nonetheless, at least we know it’s possible, and coming soon….

Great post, and this is indeed where we are still at time of posting. My question though is will the 5.1 untethered jailbreak be released now that 5.1.1 is the only firmware being signed for A5 devices? Unless the promised update in redsn0w/Tiny Umbrella arrives soon letting us restore to 5.1 and jailbreak it untethered on these devices
