iPhone 5.0.1 Factory Unlocking

Hey guys, I am new here and new to Jailbreaking too so I want to ask a few questions to clear my doubts.

I am located in India, and I bought an iPhone 2 years back in December 2010 from United States.
Phone details are,

Model : MC608LL
iOS V : 5.0.1 (9A405)
Modem Firmware : 03.10.01

The phone is Jailbroken and running on Gevey Sim the iOS version was updated preserving the baseband (I guess so, atleast) to iOS 5.0.1

I want to ask whether the Phone can work without Gevey and untethered? If it means that the iOS needs to be downgraded I am willing to do that. No one I know has an AT&T account so the Factory Unlock thingy is out of the question. The Gevey has a lot of operational problems, hence I am opting for this solution.

Please help me.
