Jailbreak and Unlock 3GS 5.1 on 05.16.05 by Upgrading to 5.1.1 and Using Absinthe 2.0

As the title says, would it be possible to Jailbreak and Unlock a 3GS on 5.1 and 05.16.05 by upgrading to 5.1.1 and using Absinthe 2.0? The 3GS was made late in 2009 so should not have any problems that 2011 versions have.

Yes, Absinthe 2.0 supports the 3GS.

    Not sure about the unlock.

Yeah, the process makes sense and would probably allow me to keep GPS function (maybe?). I can't find any information about doing it this way though :/

You would need to jailbreak and install the iPad bb using the latest redsn0w it should be updated now with the rocky racoon untether as well or you can use just boot and install it via cydia

Yeah, but that will still kill the GPS.

im on that bb 05.16.05 but I can't unlock it because every untethered jailbreak I've done cydia doesn't open and then apps are missing and cydia disappears. I tried to re jailbreak and it says im already jail broken so I have to keep restoring. Happened with redsnow and absinthe both latest versions. I need help with that and then the unlocking part.

You can now downgrade your baseband from 06.15.00 to 05.13.04 using the lastest redsn0w and recover your gps and retain unlock. Just make sure that your iphone wasnt manufactured after the 34th week of 2011 otherwise if you flash the ipad baseband youll brick your iphone and be left with a paper weight. Here is a website that will allow you to check your serial # info: Klantenservice: Serienummers
