    iPhone 3g what direction should I go with it

    Hey guys have an iPhone 3g (atleast I don't think its an 3gS) got it from an friend. To my knowledge its been sitting since dec-jan, my question is I wanna jailbreak it currently when I plug it up I get the connect to iTunes screen from this point what doin I need to do to jailbreak it, I don't know the baseband or current ioS on it I wanted to get some suggestions before just connecting it to iTunes and letting it update any help would be appreciated thanks.

    You need to update via iTunes and then you can jailbreak.

    If I remember correctly, 4.2.1 is the last update for the 3G.

    You can use PwnageTool 4.2

    Its trying to restore and update to 5.1.1 is there another way to update to the firmware you were mentioning.

    Oh, well I think you have 3GS. In the camera app, does it have the toggle for video and the Compass application on the homescreen?

    No, but go ahead and update to 5.1.1, then use How to: Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 Using Absinthe 2.0 (if it's a 3GS)
