Question why untethered jailbreak for 5.1.1 but none for 5.1?

    the title says it all...

i am just wondering why i have to update to have an untethered jailbreak for my iphone 4 running 5.1?
or did i miss something important the last days?

i would be very thankful if someone could enlighten me

    thanks

Only A5 users should have to update, A4 and below users should just be able to jailbreak from my understanding.

Ya I just read the rocky raccoon exploit, it's likely they're just trying to save time and seeing its the latest iOS more people are likely on it.

pod2g was originally creating the JB for 5.1, I wonder why it wouldn't be supported, now you have to upgrade to 5.1.1 with an updated baseband. That is silly considering maybe in a year, the baseband assigned to 5.1 may be more desirable than one for 5.1.1 or something like that, cause a couple years back I would've loved to know that those iOS's that I thought would never be unlockable that are now easy to unlock but I no longer have the baseband because I didn't think preserving it was all that important, and now there is currently no way to preserve the baseband on A5 devices so that's all in a gray area for now...

It's always a good idea to preserve your baseband, sn0wbreeze was update to support the latest iOS and jailbreak so you can preserve the baseband. The original idea was to just use @westbaer's kernel exploit but they ran into an issue the exploit wasn't useable on the 3Gs or iPod 3rd gen, they switched to @planetbeing exploit which did work on those but by then they had released 5.1.1 to avoid anymore work they just went with that iOS.

does the updated sn0wbreeze preserve a5 device basebands? not like it would matter because if I were to downgrade it would update me to the latest baseband in redsn0w until a new downgrade process is available. also, is there a way to save 5.0.1 shsh blobs on a5 devices? i can't find one, ifaith doesn't support 5.1.1 yet, and tinyumbrella won't save my ios 5.0.1 shsh only saves the 5.1.1 shsh blobs for it even though i haven't ever upgraded it to 5.1.1, and redsn0w says iphone 4s isn't supported for saving shsh blobs yet.
