Need some help to dowgrade an iPhone4

Hi everyone,

I have a problem. A friend of mine who has and iPhone 4 was using 4.3.3 firmware and the GEVEY so she could make it work in France (it's an american phone). She did the stupid mistake to update her firmware on iTunes. So I am trying to downgrade it back to 4.3.5 for instance, and I followed every tuto I found on the internet but I always ger 3194 error, though I edited the hosts file properly... Does anyone knows why?
Though I don't have any iPhone knowledge (I am an Android fan), I am tech-savvy so don't worry about using complicated words/methods : )
The thing is, I think there may be nothing I can do, because the baseband probably got updated too and the GEVEY is probably not compatible with it. And I don't know if I manage to downgrade the firmware if it will downgrade the baseband too. What's more, I cannot access the iPhone to see what baseband is on it because I am stuck at the activation part that resquires an american SIM card, which I don't have...

hello.
well i hate to say that but there's nothing u can do to use the gevey again.
if u want to open the iPhone you will have to JailBreak it.
second of all if u want to downgrade back to 4.x.x you need to havw ur SHSH saved. if u had cydia befor that means that they are saved.
download TinyUmbrella to download ur SHSH and if u have the proper SHSH u would be able to downgrade.
But keep in mind that it wont downgrade ur BB. I used SAM to unlock my wife's iPhone 4 5.1 few days ago, recomend to check out SAM.

at this point with jailbreaked ios 5.X u have a thik iPod 4.

You need SHSH blobs to be able to downgrade, if you don't have SHSH blobs then you can't downgrade

two questions then, first, if she never saved the shsh, is there anyway I can get them from a save she made from iTunes? (I guess not)
Secondly, if she buys the newest Gevey Card, will she be able to use her phone with a French SIM card? btw, it's not possible to jailbreak 5.1 Iphone 4, is it? because since I can't activate it, it has become useless...

No you cannot get shsh blobs that weren't save.

Yes you can use the Gevey unlock with almost any GSM carrier, if you need to activate the iPhone there is more then one way and yes you can jailbreak on iOS 5.1 but it's a tethered jailbreak.

to activate or in this case hacktivate and jailbreak at the same time use sn0wbreeze, use the advance user mode and follow the steps you will see a option checked to hacktivate the iPhone.

I'm not sure but I don't think you need to be jailbroken to use the gevey unlock method.

The gevey sim no longer works on iOS 5.1 by any chance do you know who the carrier is?

Call AT&T and just tell them you purchased an iPhone you have no account and you'd like to unlock it, they will ask for the IMEI and check if it's still in contract.

If they say they need proof of purchase, say you have it somewhere and they'll make a case to Apple to unlock they will tell you that the receipt needs to be faxed but don't worry about it.

Connect the iPhone to iTunes 1-2 weeks after and it should say it's unlocked, you may need to try and restore to get the message. < happened to me.
