Reception issues with iPhone 4 on 5.1

Hi,

I have just got an iPhone 4 8GB and its facotry unlocked. first thing I did after getting the phone was to update it to the latest 5.1 OS. But i am facing serious reception issues. as soon as I handle the phone it looses the signals. is it true for all the iphones? do i need to use a bumper (I don't like using it)?

I have tried to reset it and set it up as a new phone but it didnt work.

I bought this phone over the internet. the imei of the phone and box matches but the serial number doesn't match. How can that be possible ?

Grip of death is what it sounds like if you don't have a cover or bumper guard get one might solve your issue

I will try using a bumper. At places where signal are strong enough it shows all 5 signal bars and at that time even holding the phone the "wrong" way only drops one bar. but at other places with relatively weaker signal strength the phone keeps losing signals while in the pocket or lying on the table. is there any way to downgrade the os. the phone was never jailbreak.

I usually get about 4 bars in my house if I take off the iPhones ballistic case and hold the iPhone regularly it either drops signal or I get 1 bar.

how is the signal while the phone is lying around without the case ?
