iPad 4.2..... Do we have to wait for a jailbreak?

New to the ios community, but savvy in android. The question is in regards to the new ios 4.2 for ipad software set to be released to the public this november.
Are there alternative ways to update the system while retaining jailbreak? Sort of like using unrevoked to retain a permanent root user in android? Or do we have to wait for a jailbreak method to be released?

Nope. You'll need to wait for a Jailbreak.

There are actually several jailbreak methods that already work with iOS firmware 4.2 -- specifically redsn0w is known to jailbreak devices on 4.2

The problem is that Cydia and most other apps have yet to be updated, so there isn't much that you can do until that happens.
