    How to Jailbreak

    Hi all
I'm writing this simple guide to help users Jailbreak their iDevices on any software version with ease.
To jailbreak, first you will need to find out the IOS version you are running on your iDevice go to Settings>General>About and it will be next to the word 'Version'

People who want to unlock their phone, do not update to 4.1, doing so will loose your unlock.

If you are unsure what method to use or your version is not listed on here head over to http://www.jailbreak-me.info thanks to byzkyt

I am not responsible for any damage if caused, do not say it was my fault, it was yours. Normally though a simple restore in iTunes will fix your iDevice, Jailbreaking also voids your warranty.

For all devices on IOS 4.1 use limera1n or greenpois0n
For both of these methods, make sure you have the latest iTunes installed on your computer and have it opened before you run either program. If it doesn't work try running the program as an administrator or reboot your iDevice. Other instructions will be shown once either of the programs are running and should be fairly simple to follow.

For iDevices running 4.0 visit http://www.jailbreakme.com on your iDevice

For iPad (3.2) , or other devices on Version 3.xx use either Spirit Jailbreak or blackra1n.
Spirit would be the preferred method as on some iDevices blackra1n will make it a tethered jailbreak meaning that it needs to plugged in to boot. Both methods are one click. Do not use blackra1n with an iPad.

I have only included instructions for the newer versions of IOS if there is a request I will update this to feature other software versions.

Also I think you should mention that you are not liable for any damage or loss of warranty

Ok I must admit iPhone unlocking does confuse me a bit sometimes :P. Here's why:

We have one iphone (I take care of it my gf uses it :P) which can't be activated in itunes since it's doesn't have the official Dutch (T-Mobile) iPhone provider and it needs to be sim-unlockable. In my mind I always have to look for three thing when I'm ready to upgrade:
    1. Can it be jailbroken?
    2. Can it be activated without iTunes?
    3. Is it sim-unlockable?

It's sometimes hard to figure out what tool does what, especially what tool does all three. I usually stop when warning of ruining the device for ever are mentioned . Would it be an idea to add a label stating these things (and maybe more) to the different jailbreaking tools or show them per iDevice?

Also is this all possible for the 3G when upgrading to 4.1? (especially the activating part is unclear to me)

I will look into all of those for the listed jailbreak methods already there, It is possible to sim unlock an iPhone 3G on 4.1 and jailbreak (as far as i'm aware), but i'm not sure how you can activate an iPhone with out iTunes so I will look in to all of that for you

I recommend limera1n to jailbreak and ultrasn0w to unlock, but as the portal says unltrasn0w does not always work

    Thanks Max,

I currently use ultrasnow to sim-unlock the phone (baseband 5.13.04), but 4.01 was freezing a lot so I was slapped for upgrading it :P. I'm being more careful this time, otherwise my actions will be known as failbreaking
