Iphone earphones problem

It's the fourth earphone I have bought for my iphone 4s and after a couple of weeks , just as my previous ones, only one earbud is working. ( The same thing has happened even with my other three earphones and I know it's not my iphone's fault) what could be causing this and is there any way I can fix it?

No matter what you read or people tell you, you need to plug in a pair of regular apple brand headphones a few times, maybe blow out the hole with compressed air. They have to be apple head phones.....even from an iPod.
