    3rd gen iPod touch, wanting to update software ?

    I have a third GEN iPod touch with 5.0 software It is jailbroken I'm trying to update to the news version of the software but it doesn't let me I did use a hacked version of 5.0 when it first came out to jailbreak it and now I get a error is there anyway around this?

    Click on restore instead of upgrade. Just make sure you have a backup beforehand because a restore will delete all the data. After that you can re-jailbreak and restore the backup you made.

    i have already tried that , all i get is a box with a error. Can i update my software without using itunes?

    What is the error? Also you can try using redsn0w to upgrade.

    EDIT:
    Also Apple has stopped signing anything under 6.0.1 so unless you have the old bootrom version you can't upgrade. Only a 5.x to 5.x restore will work. You will also need your SHSH blobs, the IPSW for your device, and redsn0w.

    Do a backup and then restore to 5.1.1 . The 3rd gen can run up to 5.1.1, there is no 6.x.x for it.
