Iphone 3G Recovery loop + Brick fix ?

So I recieved an iphone 3G from ebay, I turn it on to find out that the iphone is bricked. I ran itunes on a pc, and it doesn't describe what baseband / firmware the iphone is on. I try to restore the iphone and I get a 1015 error. After doing a little research it seems that this is a common problem when there is a jailbrake attempt and there are methods that I have tried. I've tried to use redsn0w with tiny umbrella (new version) , and fix recover and the loop still goes on.. I don't see a red slider when holding the HOME button. I can get the iphone kicked out of recovery mode, but I cannot enter DFU mode. Is there a way to fix this ? Or am I perma-screwed? Thanks.

I had a problem with an iPhone 3G similar to this. I just used a custom ipsw file with no baseband and used Shift + Restore in iTunes to restore it.
