How to clear a bad ESN on Verizon?

Bought an iPhone 4 or 4s (can't tell what it is until I get it activated) from a guy, for some reason I have a feeling it may turn up "lost or stolen" and Verizon locks the ESN to where you can't activate it, right? Well...I'm gonna need to know how to clear it in the event that it happens. Anybody know how to reverse a bad ESN to where you can activate the phone? Thanks.

If the Verizon iPhone turns out to have a bad ESN, is there any way to make it clean so I can activate it on verizon again without flashing to a different carrier?

As far as I understand no, and even if you flash it to another company I don't think they'll allow you to use it.

Probably gonna have to sell it.

Yes that's fine just make sure to include international shoppers and have them cover the shipping costs or split it.
